My 7-year-old son gave his lunch away every day for five months.<\/p>\n
At first, I thought he was just being generous.<\/p>\n
Then the school called.<\/p>\n
“Mrs. Anderson,” the lunch lady said, “your son gives his entire lunch to the same girl every single day.”<\/p>\n
My heart sank.<\/p>\n
I asked her name.<\/p>\n
“Lily.”<\/p>\n
When I arrived at the school, I spotted her immediately.<\/p>\n
Same oversized sweatshirt.<\/p>\n

Convinced the world was dangerous, he became increasingly controlling and isolated Lily from everyone around her.<\/p>\n
Food was restricted.<\/p>\n
Freedom was restricted.<\/p>\n
Almost everything was restricted.<\/p>\n
The investigation lasted months.<\/p>\n
Lily was placed with relatives.<\/p>\n
Given counseling.<\/p>\n
Medical care.<\/p>\n
And, for the first time in years, stability.<\/p>\n
Throughout it all, my son kept asking about her.<\/p>\n
