The Sonic Run That Nearly Destroyed My Marriage

\This fuck up happened last night. I’m still dealing with the repercussions.

Background. I’m 33 years old, married to my college sweetheart with 1 kid. My wife stays at home with our daughter and she’s 7 months pregnant with our son due in late August.

Last night, about 5pm, she asked me if I’d run to Sonic and get her a drink. I said sure, no biggie and headed out.

I make this run at least 4 times a week because my wife has cravings for these slushies at Sonic.

Here’s where I fucked up.

So I put my order in and a few minutes later this early 20s something waitress comes out to my truck (Brand new Dodge Ram, all blacked out on 22s jacked up, dark tinted windows).

She is smoking hot, in cutoff jeans and an off-the-shoulder top, and a little sweaty cause it’s boiling outside.

I must have some roller skate fetish as my mind kinda blacked out for a minute thinking about how hot this chick was.

She rolled up to my window on skates and handed me my drink.

I smiled.

She smiled.

Then she leaned toward my window and said, “You come here a lot, don’t you?”

I laughed.

“Yeah. My pregnant wife basically lives on these things.”

She looked at the drink.

“Pregnant wife?”

“Seven months.”

She smiled again.

“Lucky woman.”

I thought nothing of it.

I drove home, handed my wife her slushie, kissed her forehead, and went upstairs to change.

Everything seemed normal.

Until about thirty minutes later.

My wife walked into the bedroom holding her phone.

She looked furious.

“Who is she?”

I stared at her.

“Who?”

She turned the screen toward me.

It was a picture.

A picture of me sitting in my truck.

Taken from outside the driver’s window.

My stomach dropped.

“Where did you get that?”

“She sent it to me.”

“Who?”

“The girl from Sonic.”

I immediately grabbed the phone.

There was a message underneath the picture.

“Your husband comes here a lot. Thought you should know.”

My wife looked at me.

“You told her about me?”

“Yes.”

“Then why did she send me this?”

“I don’t know.”

She scrolled down.

There were more pictures.

Me at the drive-through.

Me walking into Sonic.

Me talking to the girl.

And one picture of my truck parked outside.

My wife started crying.

“I knew something was wrong.”

I kept telling her nothing happened.

And honestly, nothing had.

I hadn’t cheated.

I hadn’t touched this woman.

I hadn’t even gotten her name.

But then my wife showed me one final message.

“Ask him why he comes through my line every time I’m working.”

I felt my face go cold.

Because I suddenly remembered something.

She wasn’t new.

I’d seen her before.

Many times.

And every single time, she’d been wearing those skates.

My wife stared at me.

“So?”

I shook my head.

“I swear to you, I never gave her my number.”

Then my phone buzzed.

Unknown number.

One message.

“Sorry about that. I didn’t realize you were married.”

I looked at my wife.

She looked at me.

Then another message arrived.

“Your wife shouldn’t be mad at you. You didn’t do anything.”

I breathed again.

Until the third message appeared.

“But you should probably ask your wife why she knows me.”

I looked at my wife.

Her face went completely white.

She whispered:

“Don’t answer that.”

And that’s when I realized…

my wife wasn’t surprised because a stranger had been flirting with me.

She was terrified because she knew exactly who that woman was.

I asked her again.

“Who is she?”

My wife started crying.

Then she finally told me the truth.

The woman at Sonic wasn’t a stranger.

She was someone from my wife’s past.

Someone she had spent years trying to forget.

And apparently…

she hadn’t forgotten my wife either.
